How green does your garden grow?

So, here is an update on Jackson's mouth. These pictures were taken on Wednesday, the day after he fell and hit his mouth in the pool. As you can see, he has no problems showing you what it looks like. Funny thing too is he will pretty much let anyone put their hands in his mouth.

Probably the worse part of this whole ordeal was how much his lip swelled. It got really big - he ate mac-n-cheese for dinner that night.

Something new we did this year was added a bird feeder to the landscape bed directly out our living room window. We can sit in the living room and enjoy the birds as they come and eat. We started with just generic, cheap birdseed from Walmart. It attracted all the birds that aren't fun to watch - like big crows. So, we got a big bag of still in the shell sunflower seeds. It is suppose to attract songbirds, and that is just what it did. The other morning as I was drinking coffee I looked outside and saw this beautiful yellow bird.

There were two of them - they are American Goldfinches. They've been back for more and its fun to watch all the different songbirds that are around now.

Back in April we started growing tomato and pepper plants on our back porch in containers. This sort of got out of hand while we were in Texas, but once we got back and Brandon really chopped them back, you can see what our crop is looking like.

There are a total of 10ish (I think?) tomato plants of 3 different varieties. We'll see how they turn out. Our biggest challenge has been black bottom rot. Its linked to a calcium deficiency. We've made some adjustments, but it was frustrating to lose the first round of tomatos to that.

Here's my green pepper plants. There are 4 of them there with tons of buds. If you look closely you can see a few small peppers that have already started to form.

Here are our 4 jalepeno pepper plants! As you can see - hopefully I'll have some tomatos to make salsa with these!

Another picture of tomatos.

Along with tomatos, green peppers, and jalepeno peppers, we also have sweet peppers, cilantro, basil, rosemary, dill, sage, and chives. Its been really fun to have a garden, but I wish they just were in something else other than pots. I know that limits their growth and probably slows it a bit, so we aren't reaching the full potential of the plants. But it will be rewarding to get some vegetables in the end! But we haven't gotten anything yet, so maybe I should just wait until I taste the results to speak!
